What Dan uses
Here's what I use on a daily basis to get work done, stay productive, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
I recently moved into a new house a few years back, so my office space is still evolving. But everything in here has been added thoughtfully and intentionally. I prefer taking my time adding high quality items that enhance focus and productivity. And as you might notice, I'm a sucker for well-crafted wood and walnut.
Core Setup
At the heart of my workspace is an Uplift standing desk, paired with both an Eames Lounge Chair (a cherished gift from my Dad) and a HON Ignition 2.0 office chair. This combination allows me to shift between different working positions throughout the day, maintaining both comfort and productivity. The ability to transition from focused work at my desk, to more relaxed work in the Eames chair, has been a nice combo.
My tech setup centers around an M3 Max MacBook Pro with 64GB of RAM, connected to a classic Apple Thunderbolt Display that's been reliably serving since 2016. While it might not be the latest display technology, it's a testament to Apple's build quality and my preference for keeping reliable tools until there's a compelling reason to upgrade. An Anker Thunderbolt docking station keeps everything connected seamlessly.
Software Environment
My software choices reflect a modern development workflow with an emphasis on AI-enhanced productivity. Cursor serves as my primary code editor, complemented by Warp terminal—both leveraging AI to streamline development tasks. Arc Browser has revolutionized my web workflow, while iA Writer provides a focused environment for documentation and writing.
Raycast has become indispensable for quick actions and workflow automation, while CleanShot X handles all my screen capture needs with precision. These tools form an ecosystem that emphasizes efficiency without sacrificing simplicity.
Workspace Aesthetics
The Samsung Frame TV doubles as both a display and art piece, embodying my appreciation for technology that integrates seamlessly into the space. Natural light plays a crucial role in the workspace, complemented by carefully positioned plants that add life and organic elements to the predominantly technical environment.
For task management and planning, I rely on the UggMonk Analog system. In a digital-first world, this analog tool provides a tactile connection to my tasks and helps maintain a mindful approach to productivity.
Audio and Communication
Audio plays a vital role in my setup, with AirPods Pro providing the flexibility to switch between focused work and clear communication during calls. The wireless nature of my peripherals—from the Magic Keyboard to the Magic Trackpad—keeps the workspace clean and minimalist, reflecting my preference for an uncluttered environment.
This workspace represents a balance between efficiency and comfort, combining high-performance tools with thoughtful design. It's an environment that supports both intense focus and creative thinking, adapting to whatever the day's work demands.
