Intro

We try share a brief recap at the start of each season. These updates help folks follow our journey at Go Between, but they're also for us. We often get so wrapped up with work and life that we forget to pause and reflect. These recaps help us remember what we've accomplished.

This recap covers Fall 2024 – a big season for Go Between!

Sometimes you grow by choice, sometimes by necessity. This fall we did both.

"I ain't reading all that"

Go on...

Let's start with the biggest news: In October, Truman and his partner Carrie welcomed their first child into the world. Welcome to the Go Between family baby Eleanor! Harrison and I are both excited for Truman to finally understand what it means to be tired!

While we definitely felt Truman's absence during the early stages, it pushed Harrison and me into new territory.

Around that same time, we started a new consulting engagement. We've been helping a financial services company better understand their growing platform by creating internal tools that help product and engineering leaders to do things like: surface key insights, quickly identify areas of the codebase that require attention, track the impact of releases, and assess the overall health of the system. While we definitely felt Truman's absence during the early stages, it pushed Harrison and me into new territory. We found ourselves tackling challenges we might have normally bounced off him first and growing in unexpected ways.

We also officially started "working in cycles" which is a strategy we discussed during our last Summit to add more structure to our non-consulting time. We kicked off fall with a product cycle, re-imagining Marginal as a Slack application. We spent ~6 weeks doing product discovery, exploring the Slack API, and building a proof of concept to validate our technical assumptions. We wrapped up by writing a product pitch for building the first version of our Marginal Slack app.

Then we shifted to audience building: writing blogs and posting on LinkedIn. Highlights included the final post in our consulting lessons series and a recap of what we learned about building Slack applications. We also shipped an RSS feed. A few people had asked for this months ago, so it felt good to deliver.

All in all, a pretty great fall season!
